Correctional Health Care for Peace Officers:
This intensive 3 day certificate course covers health issues relating to the prisoner population. The goal of this course is to assist the front line Peace Officer to recognize some of the acute health needs of the prisoner and to prevent serious health complications and/or deaths in custody. Some of the topics covered are: medical conditions in custody, such as drug and alcohol intoxication and overdose, withdrawal management in custody, diabetic coma and insulin shock, inmate heart and breathing disorders, hypothermia, information about prescription medications and other related topics. Infectious diseases including,HIV/Aids, tuberculosis, Hepatitis A, B, C and others, psychiatric and mental health disorders, suicide in custody, institutionalization, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder. This course is not available in an on-line format.
