Correctional Nursing for Registered Nurses:
This is an in-depth, 120 hour on-line course which covers the major health and nursing issues relating to the imprisoned client. HSI recognizes that Correctional Nursing is a unique and specialized area of practice and the goal of this course is to prepare the nurse to work with expertise in the field of Prison Nursing. A wide variety of in-depth topics are covered, such as: behind bars addictions, withdrawal management, methadone therapy, mental health work in custody, prison suicides, in-custody emergencies, communicable disease, outbreak prevention and management, palliative care in custody, concepts of restorative justice, security for nurses, prison oversight bodies, cultural diversity in prison health care, women in custody and many more. Course content is drawn from multidisciplinary sources including Correctional Nurses, Physicians, Psychologists and Correctional Researchers.
